Liverpool were looking forward to the replay with Bournemouth after smashing them 9-0 at the start of the season but it wasn’t the happy reunion they wanted. Liverpool were brought back down to Earth, suffering a 1-0 loss to Bournemouth.
Liverpool began in control and Van Dijk’s header was cleared off the line. Gakpo scored soon after, for it to be ruled out for offside. Bournemouth had some chnaces but nothing really dangerous until the half hour mark when Outtara chipped into the box for Billing to finish off. Van Dijk missed a free header and Liverpool went into the break a goal down.
Jota created himself a chance early after the restart but Neto tipped it behind. Liverpool were struggling to make chances so Klopp made a triple change with Firmino, Milner and Hendo all coming on. Immediately after Milner then put a cross into the box that Jota headed down onto the arm of Bournemouth’s Adam Smith. A penalty was given but shockingly Salah blasted it well wide off the post. It should of been 1-1 at that point. Liverpool really didn’t play well and with Real Madrid on the horizon in the 2nd leg of the Champions League, they needed to put this match behind them and fast.
