In one of Liverpool’s greatest perfomances the mighty reds sailed to a 7-0 victory over their long lasting rivals Man United.
Liverpool flew out of the blocks with the home crowd behind them. Most of the first half was spent in United’s half as Liverpool controlled the possession. Liverpool nearly opened the scoring when Lisandro Martinez crucially got in the way of a Robertson cross that Nunez most likely would of scored. Fernandes nodded the ball wide before Casemiro scored what he thought was the opener, but he was several yards offside. Liverpool moments later had the opener through Gakpo. Robertson made a surge infield and made a great pass into Gakpo who cut inside and curled a beautiful shot into the bottom corner. The first half ended with Liverpool ahead and no one expected what was about to happen in the 2nd half.
Klopp’s team came out after the interval full of intent and 5 minutes later they had a 3 goal lead. Great midfield play from Fabinho led to Nunez heading home a cross from Elliot. The goal was a thing of beauty with a sweeping move starting in Liverpool’s box which led to Salah confusing Martinez and laying a perfect ball into Gakpo who dinked it over De Gea to score and give Liverpool the 3 goal lead. Some fans hadn,t even made it to their seats. Liverpool were rampant and Robertson and Konate went close to scoring before Salah’s right foot blasted home a poweful volley off the crossbar and in. De Gea had no chance of saving it. Nunez scored another header this time from a Henderson cross and Liverpool weren’t going to stop there and after a failed cross from Elliot, Salah had a tap in to make it 6 for Liverpool and a record breaking 128 premier league goals for him. Salah is now Liverpool’s all time highest prem scorer, overtaking Robbie Fowler. To celebrate he took off his shirt just like he did in 2020. Liverpool weren’t finished there either as Roberto Firmino meets a ball from Salah and pannas De Gea to make it 7-0 to Liverpool and to make it Man United’s biggest defeat in the premier league. The result pushed Liverpool to 5th in the premier league table and showed other teams that Liverpool are still a team to be reckoned with.
