Match report – Chelsea

This week LFC played Chelsea on a cold Saturday at home. The game ended 0-0, the first time the two sides have held each other to a goalless draw at Anfield since 1971.

In our view liverpool put up a good fight , not least because Kai Havertz’s third minute strike seemed to signal yet another early conceded goal…VAR to the rescue with a justified call of offside. At the end of the first half there was a feeling of frustration at the lack of a breakthrough for Liverpool but some bright moments including Gakpo showing signs of real potential, a Salah opportunity in the extra time of the first half, and Allison producing a world class display. Following what was clearly a Klopp galvinising half time talk, Liverpool looked bright and energetic for the start of the second half.

Chelsea’s new signing, Mykhailo Mudryk was a bundle of energy and handful for James Milner but the veterans wiley ways saw off the youngster whilst James took wide applause as he made way for Trent at the 72 minute mark.

The match played out to a nil nil draw, the clean sheet a welcome return after 8 league matches without one.

Stephan Bajcetic put on a classy display against the Chelsea players and as football mad youngsters hoping to play at Anfield he’s also our Man of the Match.

All in all a draw and a clean sheet isnt the worst result but there is still room for improvement in this side and a long road to gathering that all important 4th League place at the end of the season.
